You can revoke a Power of Attorney at any time and for whatever reason you wish.
You don't need to give a reason!
It may be because you don't need the document anymore, you don't trust the person whom you appointed or the person has moved away, or you found a more suitable person etc.
You must do it in writing and issue a copy of the revocation to any interested third party such as a bank or financial institution whom you or your Agent have business with.
Have your document notarized.
If your power of attorney was filed for real estate purposes, the revocation must be filed as well.
Even a durable power of attorney can be revoked if you are still mentally competent to do so. Use our free legal form below to issue to your Agent and interested third parties.
Send notice of the cancellation (a copy of the signed revocation) by registered mail to your Agent.
It is unlawful for an Agent to continue acting on behalf of a principal once a revocation has been signed.

A power of attorney always terminates upon the death of the principal. It also terminates when the principal becomes incapacitated, unless the POA specifically states that it is a durable or lasting power of attorney.
